We have a program in our county that requires people getting food stamps to work for a non-profit organization. I like this program a whole lot because our church sponsers many such people. The ones who have worked at GIBC are very kind and do a great job. I have 3 currently working in our school. They make wonderful helpers because I can break kids off into groups and let these helpers do such things as:
1) listen to kids read
2) call out flash cards
3) help with simple school work
It frees me up to work with more difficult subjects such as math.
I also think that our helpers feel important, special, and loved by the kids and me. One lady has started coming to church and has even been saved and baptized. What a blessing!
These workers don't feel like they are just "taking" a handout but that they are working for their food. And they are.
